Lithuania at Trieste: films, projects and Baltic-Italian development award for coproduction

2019-01-18

With three films in different programs, a project in When East Meets West and Italy-Baltic development coproduction award Lithuania makes sure not to go unnoticed in this year’s Trieste Film Festival.

Laurynas Bareiša’s Caucasus will compete in the Shorts section; Bridges of Time, a documentary by Lithuania’s Audrius Stonys and Latvia’s Kristīne Briede will be part of Born in Trieste program; and Eter, a period drama directed by Poland’s Krzysztof Zanussi and co-produced with Lithuania, will be screened in Special Events category.

Marija Stonytė’s Gentle Warriors (prod. Giedrė Žickytė) was selected for When East Meets West documentary fine cut section Last Stop Trieste.

Also, this year Italy, Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia grants an award of 30.000 EUR to the best project in development co-produced between Italy and one of the Baltic States. The prize is a result of partnership between the film centres of the three Baltic countries and Italy’s Directorate General for Cinema and is aimed at encouraging closer cooperation in film production.

“In recent years, this forum has become a significant meeting point for our region, promoting long–term cooperation between Eastern and Western Europe. I hope that the new Baltic–Italian prize for coproduction projects will prove a meaningful inducement for producers to start cooperating in early stages of development,” says Rolandas Kvietkauskas, director of the Lithuanian Film Centre.
