Today for the 14th time begins the International Film Festival for Young Audiences Filem‘On, in Brussels, and this year it is particularly welcoming to Lithuanian filmmakers’ films. Lithuania is the featured guest at the festival and as many as seven Lithuanian films for younger viewers will be screened at the festival this year.
At the today commencing 63rd DOK Leipzig festival, Lithuanian filmmakers will present themselves once more. The world premiere of Roman’s Childhood (dir. Linas Mikuta ) will take place at the festival. Today begins the 7th Riga International Film Festival. Due to the worldwide COVID-19 pandemic the festival is organised in a hybrid manner and will also present the newest Lithuanian filmmakers’ films: they will compete in competition programmes, will invite viewers to their premieres.
The eighth edition of the Baltic Pitching Forum (BPF), which took place between 8th and 10th October, came to an end this weekend with successes for projects from all the participating countries. After 12 projects – from Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Poland – were pitched to an online audience from across Europe, the Baltic Pitching Forum panel of industry experts and the Baltic Producers’ Jury gave out three main awards.
6.2 million euros funding distributed to film sector in Lithuania for losses experienced due to COVID-19
In the face of the Coronavirus the Lithuanian film industry has encountered and still encounters serious challenges. Thanks to close collaboration with the film industry, Lithuanian Film Centre has efficiently identified the most affected areas and their needs. In an attempt to counter the problems created by the COVID-19 pandemic the film sector was provided with 6.2 million euros funding, which was distributed by the Lithuanian Film Centre. Such multifaceted support for the film sector is the only one in the Baltic States.
