The 15th Reykjavik International Film Festival in Iceland is dedicating part of its programme to the cinemas of Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia on the occasion of the centenary of the Baltic nations’ statehood. The special programme “In Focus: Baltic Countries”, put together in cooperation with the national film centres of the three countries, comprises nearly 30 works representing Lithuanian, Latvian and Estonian filmmaking.
The centrepiece of the programme is a retrospective dedicated to the legendary Lithuanian filmmaker Jonas Mekas, the guest of honour at this year’s festival. Lithuanian cinema will also be represented by two young-generation directors, Rugilė Barzdžiukaitė and Marija Kavtaradzė, and their debut feature films, in addition to a programme of Lithuanian shorts.
San Sebastian International Film Festival welcomes Lithuanian filmmakers and offers wider cooperation opportunities
The 66th San Sebastian International Film Festival, which kicked off on Friday, is featuring not only a number of co-productions with Lithuania, but also a large delegation representing the country. This year, unlike before, the core of the Lithuanian delegation, along with colleagues from Latvia and Estonia, came to San Sebastian to present films still in production stage and to seek cooperation opportunities with Latin American and European film industry professionals. The festival, in cooperation with the Baltic national film institutions, is offering the production partnership promoting programme to filmmakers from Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia for the first time.
For the second year in a row Lithuania has been included in the Toronto International Film Festival – one of the key events of the industry across the globe. The 43rd edition of the film festival will run for eleven days and include the world premiere of Marija Kavtaradzė’s debut feature Summer Survivors (orig. “Išgyventi vasarą”), which is taking place today, September 7. Authors of the film will hold a meeting with the audience after the screening. The national film industry will be represented at the EUROPE! Umbrella of the TIFF Industry Centre by the Lithuanian Film Centre as the official member of the European Film Promotion (EFP).
