Five producers from Lithuania have been selected to participate in the 66th San Sebastian International Film Festival‘s special industry programme „Glocal Meets the Baltics“, which aims to foster networking and co-production with Spain, Basque and Latin American countries. In the festival‘s programme, which pays special attention to centenary of statehood restoration celebrated by the Baltic States, Lithuania will be represented by Giedrė Žickytė, who will present director Marija Stonytė‘s documentary film Gentle Warriors („Švelnūs kariai“), Dagnė Vildžiūnaitė, presenting the documentary The Harbor („Uostas“) by Albina Griniūtė, Paulius Juočeris with documentary El Padre Medico by Vytautas Puidokas, Andrius Lekavičius with his current documentary project World of Tanks ( „Tankų pasaulis“) and Marija Razgutė with Three („Trys“), a feature film by Juanjo Giménez. A total of seven applications were submitted by Lithuanian producers.
From September 23–27, fifteen Lithuanian, Latvian and Estonian producers will meet with filmmakers from Basque, Iceland, Sweden and Norway, will participate in the 7th European-Latin American co-production forum as well as expand networking and hold individual meetings with potential co-production partners and other international film industry professionals. Also, during the programme representatives from the Baltic national film institutions will present film tax incentives offered by their governments.
The San Sebastian International Film Festival is held every year since 1953 and is one of the most significant A-class festivals in the world and one of the most important cultural events in Spain. Although Baltic films have been screened in the festival programme before, for the first time, Lithuanian, Latvian and Estonian producers will be in focus at the event aimed at fostering cooperation among European and Latin American film industries. The agreement between Lithuanian, Latvian and Estonian film institutions and the San Sebastian Film Festival on the participation of Baltic producers in the industry days and the programme „Glocal Meets the Baltics“ was signed in February at the annual European Film Market in the Berlin International Film Festival.
Participation of the Lithuanian producers in the programme is initiated and supported by the Lithuanian Film Centre.
