Today representatives of the San Sebastian International Film Festival and the Baltic film centres held a cordial meeting at the European Film Market in Berlin to discuss the presentation of the Lithuanian, Latvian and Estonian film industries at this year’s festival.

San Sebastian International Film Festival regularly includes Baltic films in its programmes. In 2014, Baltic cinema featured in the “Eastern Promises. Autobiography of Eastern Europe” retrospective; latest works by Baltic filmmakers are screened at San Sebastian IFF almost every year. Still, the latest agreement takes the partnership to a new level: for the first time, Lithuanian, Latvian and Estonian producers will be in focus at the event aimed at fostering cooperation among European and Latin American film industries.

Fifteen Baltic film producers interested in coproduction opportunities in Latin America will have a chance to introduce themselves and their projects to industry professionals. At a special event, the three Baltic film centres will also present coproduction opportunities and film tax incentives offered by the governments of Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia.

The San Sebastian International Film Festival, organised annually since 1953, is an A-class cinema event and a fixture on the Spanish cultural calendar. Five years ago, it screened The Gambler by the Lithuanian filmmaker Ignas Jonynas, the first international Baltic premiere at San Sebastian IFF.

Candidates for the Lithuanian delegation will be selected by the Lithuanian Film Centre this summer.
