Lithuania is an attractive destination for those foreign filmmakers who come here seeking not only for flexible prices for film production and services, but also for a professional crew and a good location. Last year, Lithuania attracted the highest number of foreign productions since the introduction of its 20 percent tax incentive in 2014. Directors, actors and producers, known worldwide, work with film productions, which were partly shot in Lithuania. The films produced in this country have also drawn attention of the international film market. In this article the founder and producer of a Lithuanian production company, ARTBOX, Kestutis Drazdauskas speaks about his international co-production experience.

Lithuanian cinema to begin 2018 with a film retrospective in Paris

One of the biggest and most important projects presenting Lithuanian cinema to Europe will open the series of events in France dedicated to the centenary of the restoration of the state of Lithuania. Three years of negotiations were finalised this week with an agreement between the Lithuanian Film Centre, the Embassy of the Republic of Lithuania in France, and the Paris-based Cinémathèque Française, one of the largest cinematheques in the world. The film programme will begin in January next year and will run for almost a month.

Lithuanian filmmakers and open lectures at the ESoDoc session in Vilnius

The third training session of ESoDoc (European Social Documentary) starts in Vilnius this week. Three more documentary filmmakers from Lithuania have been selected to participate in the session along with other professionals from all over the world. 22 ESoDoc participants will be joined by the producer Rasa Miškinytė with the project Exemplary Behaviour (directed by Audrius Mickevičius) as well as the filmmaker Gerda Paliušytė and producer Gabrielė Vaičiūnaitė who will take part without projects. They are not the only Lithuanians at the ESoDoc 2017 – at the beginning of this year the producer Živilė Gallego with her project in development Vital Selection and the director Virginija Vareikytė with the documentary Kupiškis Project were selected for all three training sessions.

Frost by Šarūnas Bartas selected to compete for the Academy Award

The decision was taken by the Lithuanian Oscar Committee. Frost, which is the latest work of the filmmaker Šarūnas Bartas, competed for the right to run for the prestigious award in the category of the best foreign language film with the other two candidates – The Saint directed by Andrius Blaževičius (2016) and Together For Ever by Lina Lužytė (2016).
