The 18th FILMART in Hong Kong which runs from 24-27 March is maintaining its significance as hub for sales to Asia for an increasing number of European sales companies. This year, a record-breaking number of 32 different sales agents are receiving Film Sales Support (FSS) for 42 European films from 15 different countries – including Lithuanian ‘The Gambler’ . With the financial help of the MEDIA Programme of the European Union (2007 – 2013) and participating EFP member organisations, European Film Promotion (EFP) has earmarked FSS funds amounting to €107,300 for the promotional campaigns of Europe’s diverse films.
The majority of the FSS beneficiaries are taking advantage of doing business at EFP’s annual European Umbrella Stand as well as at national stands by UniFrance films and FilmExport UK. EFP has successfully been offering European sales companies a base for meetings with local buyers since 2011 following ever increasing demand from the industry..
This year, films for sale include nine Italian films, eight French, five Spanish and German films, three Danish, two Austrian, Belgian and Polish films and one each from Bulgaria, Norway, Hungary, Ireland, Lithuania and the UK.
The respective films were confirmed by EFP’s member organisations: Austrian Film Commission, the British Council, the Bulgarian National Film Center, the Danish Film Institute, Flanders Image, German Films, ICAA (Spain), the Irish Film Board, Istituto Luce Cinecittà, the Lithuanian Film Centre, Magyar Filmunió/ International Division of the Hungarian National Film Fund, the Norwegian Film Institute, the Polish Film Institute and UniFrance films.
