The San Sebastian International Film Festival is an annual FIAPF A category film festival held in the Spanish city of Donostia-San Sebastián and is known for premieres of Alfred Hitchcock’s ‘Vertigo’, Woody Allen’s ‘Melinda Melinda’ and George Lucas’ ‘Star Wars’. This year it will take place on 20-28, September.
About the film: The main character of ‘The Gambler’, Vincentas, is a new hybrid person, who belongs to the two conflicting systems. His duality is best revealed in the critical situations, which are experienced by the paramedic, who also happens to be an avid gambler. Balancing between death and life at work and trying to pay back his debts, he creates an illegal game related to his profession. Thus, the world-view of the post-Soviet conformist and the capitalist winner converge.
