Lithuanian avant-garde artist Jonas Mekas honoured

Avant-garde cinema artist Jonas Mekas received an insignia of Commander of the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres at the French Embassy in New York. Lithuania’s Consul General in New York Valdemaras Sarapinas thanked the artist for continous promotion of Lithuania, his exceptional expression, and unique experience.

Antonin Baudry, the Cultural Counselor of the French Embassy, noted that Mekas made it possible for New York to be able to see works of legendary filmmakers, French in particular. He also mentioned that Mekas has inspired a number of famous artists, including American filmmaker Martin Scorcese.
